Today, one way or another, we have been touched by cancer. Whether you know someone who is battling the disease, lost their life, or fought back and is now a survivor, it is important for us to never lose HOPE.
My name is Cindy Woo, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. My parents are from Hong Kong, China. Growing up in a family of 4, I have an older sibling, making me the baby in the family. My sister Amy, has been a huge contributor to the creation of this site; very much "behind the scenes" from stem to stern. Thank you for making this possible for me.
While making jewelry as a hobby, I spend a lot of my time volunteering at venues and organizations. I do various charity work from selling daffodils with the Canadian Cancer Society to volunteering in cultural events at Fo Guang Shan Temple. I also participate in various runs, such as the Terry Fox Run, CIBC Run for Cure and the Harry Rosen Spring Run for Prostate Cancer. The motivation and drive comes from my mother. She was brave and loving. My mother battled lung cancer. By the time she was diagnosed with cancer, she was already in stage 4, terminal. She remained optimistic and courageous even in the last 13 months of her life. She never gave up. Her determination and ability to face the disease was admirable. She never lost hope.
By investing in the best research, my wish is to bring tremendous progress against cancer...hence the name SHOP FOR HOPE.
3 SIMPLE STEPS TO CREATE HOPE:
1. Please take a look at this site, and SHOP!
2. If you do not see anything you like, still SHOP and gift!!
3. If you really cannot justify buying something you will NEVER wear, you can still help!!! Just forward this site to all your friends and family!
Your generosity today may not make an immediate difference, but will provide a substantial impact for tomorrow.
“To other Canadians who are on journeys to defeat cancer and to live their lives, I say this: please don’t be discouraged that my own journey hasn’t gone as well as I had hoped. You must not lose your own hope. Treatments and therapies have never been better in the face of this disease. You have every reason to be optimistic, determined, and focused on the future. My only other advice is to cherish every moment with those you love at every stage of your journey, as I have done this summer.” - Jack Layton
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world." - Jack Layton
